MATSDA Materials Writing Workshop, September 8-10th, 2006. The Marton Arms Hotel, Thornton-in-Lonsdale, Ingleton.

:: Writing Extensive Readers

Enjoy a weekend developing extensive readers, walking by the spectacular Ingleton Falls, dining from an extensive menu, and sampling the fourteen real ales and over two hundred malt whiskies at this famous old coaching inn on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales.

Brian Tomlinson

President of MATSDA, Reader in Language Learning and Teaching at Leeds Metropolitan University, author of Superbird, Editor of World Wide Readers Series, Editor of Materials Development in Language Teaching, CUP and of Developing Materials for Language Teaching, Continuum.

Alan Maley

Author of numerous books and articles on language learning, including such extensive readers as Musical Cheers and Other Very Short Stories and He Knows Too Much, Editor of World Wide Readers Series, Series Editor of Oxford University Press Resource Books for Teachers Series.

Objectives and Programme

To help the participants to:

• develop their awareness and skills as writers and users of extensive readers and short stories
• improve their writing skills
• write readers for possible publication in the World Wide Readers e-books series to be published by MATSDA

• Teachers who are interested in writing readers for their students
• Teachers who are interested in writing extensive readers for commercially published series
• Experienced writers of extensive readers

Accommodation (on site at the Marton Arms Hotel)

£36 per person per night for sharing; £72 per person per night for single use of a room.

Fees and Application

£95 for MATSDA members; £125 for non-members
